Colorado has: 41 State parks, 12 National Parks and monuments, 13 national forests and grasslands and 54 peaks over 14,000 feet in Colorado, and all of them have challenging hiking options
The amazing part about hiking in Colorado is that not all hikes need to take a full day. Whether you’re looking for hikes to a waterfall, a secluded walk in the woods, or a full day adventure up a 14er, there are endless options for all levels of hiking experiences.
We selected three hikes in Colorado that are our favorites.
1. Saint Mary’s Glacier – Idaho Springs, CO

Difficulty: Easy
Length: 2.4 miles /3.9 km
Elevation gain: 800 feet / 314meters
Route type: Out & back
Season: The most popular time from April until October.
Location: Start of the I-70 corridor. Only about a 1 hour drive from downtown Denver.
2. Hanging Lake Trail – one of Colorado’s most famous lakes

Difficulty: Moderate
Length: 3 miles /5.0 km
Elevation gain: 1187.6 feet / 362meters
Route type: Out & back
Season: The most popular time from May until November
Location: Near Glenwood Springs, Colorado.
3. Mount Sneffels – Telluride, Colorado

Difficulty: Hard
Length: 7.08 miles /11.4 km
Elevation gain: 3.320.2 feet / 1.012 meters
Route type: Out & back
Season: The most popular time from June until September
Location: San Juan’s, near the town of Telluride

1. Blue Lake – North Cascades, Washington

Length: 4.4 miles / 7.4 km
Elevation gain: 1050 feet / 281 meters
Route type: Out & back
Season: The most popular time from July until November
Location: North Cascades — North Cascades Highway – Hwy 20
2. Mount Rainier Area – Naches Peak Loop
Mount Rainier Area is the most popular hiking destination in Washington


Difficulty: Moderate
Length: 3.2 miles / 5.3 km
Elevation gain: 600 feet / 194 meters
Route type: Out & back
Season: The most popular time from July until October
Location: Mount Rainier Area -SE – Cayuse Pass/Stevens Canyon
3. Horseshoe Basin via Boundary Trail


Difficulty: Hard
Length: 12 miles / 20.1 km
Elevation gain: 1650 feet / 529 meters
Route type: Out & back
Season: The most popular time from June until October
